Pocket Monsters: Black and White Vocabulary List

May 24, 2012 | JJ Cappa

This is an extensive vocabulary list for Pocket Monsters: Black and White, containing flashcards (with kanji readings) for nearly two hundred words encountered in the game.  Pocket Monsters: Black was the first JRPG that I played in Japanese, and because I was not yet confident in my abilities, I frequently consulted a dictionary during play.  Therefore, this list is both long and diverse; amongst the two hundred flashcards are words at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.  Once you have downloaded the list, please feel free to remove any unnecessary vocabulary.

As with all of our vocabulary lists, this “deck” of flashcards is formatted for use with the spaced-repetition program Anki.

Pocket Monsters: Black and Pocket Monsters: White are available on the Nintendo DS and are forward-compatible with the Nintendo 3DS.  The games are also region-free, and can be played on a Nintendo DS or DS Lite from any region. However, they are not compatible with non-Japanese Nintendo DSi or 3DS consoles (or their XL versions).

Pocket Monsters: Black can be imported here or purchased within Japan here.
